Santa Fe Trail Elementary, a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school, is located in the central part of Independence, Missouri, and was named for its historic location on the Santa Fe Trail. The 42,870 square foot school was constructed in 1980 to replace the former Alton and Noland schools. The Santa Fe Trail attendance area is bordered by commercial streets on the east and west, Chrysler Avenue and Noland Road respectively. The northern and southern boundaries, Truman Road and 31st Street, are residential neighborhoods. Busy 23rd Street and railroad tracks intersect and divide the Santa Fe Trail attendance area. Due to the high traffic on this thoroughfare, the vast majority of students are bus riders. Families from zip codes 64055, 64050 and some from 64052 make up the student population. Our Santa Fe Trail mascot is the Trailblazer and our school colors are blue and gold.

Santa Fe Trail, a Title I school, is a true neighborhood school. Our programs continue to focus on student and family success. We are a “Fight Free” school and have a strong character education program.

On average, approximately 200-300 family members attend monthly school and family night programs. We are proud that our Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores have consistently improved each year. This is a result of dedicated faculty and staff who consistently analyze our teaching methods and make necessary changes to improve student performance.

Mission
Santa Fe Trail will serve as a center linking student learning, family involvement and community support. By working together, we will create an environment which allows students to become successful contributors in society.
