The School District of Independence Foundation traces its beginning to a gift to Jackson County prior to the organization of the Independence School District in 1866. Since that time we have grown to a net worth of nearly $1,700,000 with over 115 separate funds serving a wide range of student needs. This spring we awarded students scholarships and grants totaling over $100,000.
The ISD Foundation has an impressive history of helping students achieve their dreams of education beyond high school.
Since 1996 we have:
Awarded graduating seniors over $740,000 in scholarships and awards
We have a total of 86 scholarships and award available to students at William Chrisman High School, Truman High School and Independence Academy.
Awarded over $5,500 in classroom grants to teachers to improve classroom learning.
The Foundation continues to expand and grow as we are now providing scholarships to some of our Classified (non-teacher) employees for courses at Metropolitan Community College.
Our school family of PTA and PTSA groups, faculty professional organizations, student councils, the School Board and various school related groups are solid supporters of our work.
Major Saver Restaurant Card sales and the L.I.N.K. run/walk have raised funds for student scholarships. We have donors who contribute annually. Others have included the Foundation in their wills and estate planning and over $2,000 is donated monthly by our employees through payroll deduction.
As we continue to add more donors, we expect to reach a net worth of $2,000,000 in the next few years.
